The Good Robot Report!

Academic Podcasting: A Guide From The Good Robot Podcast

We're delighted to share with you our new report on podcasting for academics! When we first started The Good Robot Podcast back in 2021, we sought out advice from successful academic podcasters whose work we admired (and never thought we’d ever be able to emulate). Now that we’ve been podcasting for several years, we’re regularly contacted by academics in the arts and humanities who want to enter the podcasting world, but are a little intimidated by what it entails. That’s why we produced this report on academic podcasting: to act as a guide and a friend to new podcasters, reflect on the strengths and limitations of podcasting as an academic medium, and raise awareness about all the different ways that academics are using podcasting to disseminate their research to different audiences.

In this report, we explore key questions like:

- What is the current landscape of academic podcasting like?

- What are the strengths of podcasting as an academic medium? What are its limitations?

- What risks should academics consider when launching a podcast?

- What lessons can academic podcasters learn from The Good Robot Podcast?

Huge thanks to the AHRC Impact Grant, who funded this report, and to our Research Assistant Raphael Hernandes, for his invaluable research and authorship of the report.
